Exploring Songwriting: Finding the Voice of Your Heart
~
Marcy Brenner and Guests

Has a song ever made you laugh or cry? Have you ever had a melody “stuck in your head”?

Whether you play an instrument or not, this class will give you a chance to explore the craft of songwriting and, perhaps, find a song of your own. Listening, writing, sharing - if you love songs and have the spirit of musical adventure, this class will give you some tools to begin carving life experience into lyrical songs or instrumental music.

Marcy Brenner is a resident of Ocracoke Island and is one half of the songwriting/performing duo Coyote. They have released four CDs and perform regularly with Molasses Creek, Ocrafolk Opry and Noah Paley.

Marcy has studied with mentors Nik Venet (Bobby Darin, Beach Boys, Linda Rondstat) and Harriet Schock (“Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady”). Marcy has appeared in the “Songwriter's Circle” at the Ocrafolk Music & Storytelling Festival and conducted a songwriting session for Arts Week at the school. In March 2009, she'll lead a songwriting session at NCCAT's seminar entitled “Reading & Writing by the Sea.”
