Island Photography ~ Ann Ehringhaus
A long-time resident of Ocracoke Island, Ann Ehringhaus still loves photography after 30 years of shooting everything from whales to weddings to CD covers! Her book, "Ocracoke Portrait" is a classic, capturing the beauty, humor, and drama of island life. Ann's artwork has been exhibited throughout the Southeast and is in numerous collections, public and private. She taught for ten years in NCs Artist in Schools program. Her most recent exhibitions have been in Fairhope, Alabama, and Jacksonville, Florida. She was also invited to partipate in "Nine Principles of Spirit", a group exhibition of various media, on a farm outside Hillsborough, NC. In this island workshop we will use film as well as digital cameras on field trips, and will work with composition, editing, and clear seeing.

Assignments
Eye exercises: sit on sofa or comfortable chair. Roll both eyes upward and stretch eye muscles. Then roll eyes to right and the same. Then roll downward and then to the left. Do this several times. Then reverse the order, beginning at the top, then to the left, then down, then to the right. This exercise is part of the Bates Method, for strengthening eyes. Keep eyes open as you do this.
Next: from Chi Kung: hold your fingertips about 6 inches from your eyes. Let your eyes be soft focus. Begin moving your fingertips in
unison gently in small circles around to the right, 18x, pause and then 18x circles around to the left.
Please do these eye exercises every day for the week before the workshop and notice any changes you feel.
Please bring with you:
1) I picture you really like from a magazine or newspaper. Reflect on this image and be prepared to say why you like it.
2) 1 picture you don't like from mag/newspaper. Reflect and share.
3) 1 book and 1 magazine that we can cut up for collage work.
4) 1 recent image you have made that you like. (print or disc)
5) 1 image that you have a question about- what went wrong? How could it have been better? (print or disc)
Please be sure you know about basic camera operation of YOUR camera. People have such varied cameras today that I will not be spending much time on basic operation- more on framing the image, composition, lighting, and creativity.
